A pandemic,
in population data.
A bilingual policy report for DIFI and the League of Arab States — how COVID-19 reshaped fertility, mortality, and migration across the Arab world, and what it means for families over the coming decade.
The brief
The study was produced jointly with the League of Arab States and explores how the pandemic reshaped demographic patterns — fertility, mortality, migration — and their long-term implications for families across the region.
Because the study's primary audience sits in ministerial offices across twenty-two Arab League member states, Arabic had to be the first-class edition. We typeset the Arabic first, then matched the English layout to its rhythm.
Scope on this report extended beyond design — Freezil also proof-read the full bilingual manuscript before final print.
How we worked
01 — Arabic-first editorial
Layout designed against the Arabic script first. English set to follow, not lead.
02 — Illustrated cover
A commissioned editorial illustration of a masked crowd — individuals, not statistics — to humanise the demographic lens.
03 — Chart system
Fertility, mortality, and migration each get a dedicated chart style so readers can pattern-match across chapters.
04 — Distribution-ready
Print master for the LAS secretariat, digital edition for DIFI.org, and pull-quote assets for ministry comms.
05 — Editorial proof-read
A multi-institution bilingual policy report raises the editorial stakes. We proof-read the full manuscript — every figure caption, every source line, every demographic statistic — with special attention to consistency between the Arabic and English editions.
